Wellness Journey

Wellness has evolved into a thriving global industry, worth over 4.5 trillion dollars today. Surprisingly, its roots can be traced back to ancient civilizations. However, understanding and defining wellness is crucial to maximizing its benefits in our lives. In essence, wellness is a journey (process) of building and sustaining optimal health and well-being in order to maximize our potential to live a meaningful, joyful and zestful life. Each of us can take steps towards better well-being, regardless of our current state.

I can attest to the transformative power of wellness. From battling chronic health issues to now embracing a vibrant life, this concept has become a source of empowerment and excitement for me. My chronic health conditions taught me the importance of taking charge of my health. Mindfulness, acceptance, and conscious actions towards a healthy lifestyle led me to better well-being. Wellness, therefore, is positive and affirming, not just about survival, but thriving and glowing.

Wellness is multidimensional, encompassing physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, occupational, and environmental aspects. Achieving balance among these dimensions is the key to optimal health. And to reach this balance, self-awareness and personal responsibility are fundamental. Taking control of our health journey and adopting a self-sufficient approach build self-esteem and pave the way to fulfilling our potential.

Beyond individual efforts, wellness highlights our interconnectedness with others and the environment. Meaningful relationships and strong connections contribute to our happiness and well-being. We are part of an ecosystem where our actions impact each other, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility and teamwork.

Everyone needs a "well" life vision in order to reach and sustain a high level of wellness. This personal vision will create and focus the motivation to create long-lasting changes. Those healthy lifestyle habits will bridge the gap between the current health status and a high level of wellness. This is also what health coaching is about. To assist with creating lasting healthy lifestyle changes for better health and wellness.

In conclusion, always remember that the good life is a fluid, ever-changing process rather than a score or end state. It is a direction not a destination as Carl Rogers, the father of humanistic psychology, framed it. You don't have to be perfect in order to be well. It is an ongoing and progressive journey which can be started with tiny steps. Cheers to a better life.
